Insomniac Games’ Wolverine made an appearance at the September Sony State of Play with a lengthy trailer that showcases just how gory and action-oriented the game will be. Fans also got a release timeframe: Fall 2026.
The trailer features Wolverine slicing and dicing through enemies with no remorse. If you had any doubts this game was going to be anything else but M-rated, the first few seconds alone will dissipate that. So far, no story details have been shared, but by the looks of things, it’ll be incredibly high stakes, as characters such as Omega Red, Mystique, and even a Sentinel show up during the footage shown.
The game has had a tumultuous development cycle. Leaks surfaced as part of a massive data breach from hackers who got hold of Insomniac Games, including work-in-progress content last year, which already confirmed the vision behind Wolverine: it’s not an open-world game, with special focus on melee combat.
What was shown at the State of Play confirms the direction Insomniac is going: this is not like Marvel’s Spider-Man. It’s grittier and gorier, which fits Logan perfectly. In a blog post, Sony confirmed players will get to explore different locales, including Tokyo, Canada, and even the fictional island of Madridpoor.
