  • Quick Answer: Highguard is an upcoming hero-shooter launching January 26, 2026, earning early praise from creators for its gunplay, movement, and unique combat systems.

Highguard, the upcoming hero-shooter from former Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends developers, launches today, January 26, 2026. Despite the lack of social media marketing and community engagement, the game appears to be a potential industry shaker, according to a select group of people who have just had the opportunity to play it early.

Wildlight Entertainment, creators of Highguard, took it to their Instagram channel to post snippets of players’ early impressions from a recent creator event. According to some of the creators, gunplay was among their favorite gameplay aspects. As a hero-shooter, good gunplay is essential to make things far more interesting for players who both crave the action, as well as the tactile feel.

Multiple content creators and influencers were interviewed in the Instagram video, including TenZ, a former professional Valorant and Counter-Strike player. According to him, “So far the game’s been pretty fun, I mean, I think it’s like, it feels similar to battle royales, but with constant action.” Even a variety streamer, AfroSenjuXL, known for his screaming from playing Dark Souls games, praised the game’s mount combat. He believed it was “weird” that he enjoyed that combat aspect the most.

The rest shared their own takes on the upcoming shooter. Others mentioned it’s going to be “super competitive,” whereas one content creator mentioned that “[Highguard] is different than Battle Royales or extraction, none of those things and all of those things.” While Highguard is not strictly a battle royale or extraction shooter, several creators describe it as borrowing elements from both. Some even reportedly praised its movement, comparing it to Apex Legends’ mobility.

Despite the praise from these content creators, some remain skeptical. Others are calling out the creators as “paid” to talk positively about the game. However, one content creator, Macro from TheMacroShow, confirmed on X that he was not paid for the Highguard Creator Event. He was offered a huge deal to make a video on it, but he refused. His flight and hotel weren’t paid for, so he drove himself to the event since it is nearby. According to him, his only compensation “was a sandwich.” He concluded his tweet by saying, “I genuinely had fun playing [Highguard].”

Geoff Keighley, the man responsible for putting Highguard on the map after saving it a slot at the end of 2025’s The Game Awards, doubled down on his support for the game. He posted a GIF with only a quote saying, “In 48 hours, I’ll be accepting your apologies.”

Wildlight Entertainment plans to do a developer showcase on launch day, as well as lifting the embargo period for all content creators under NDA.

In the meantime, Highguard’s baffling emergence into the saturated gaming market has puzzled many players, but from what some content creators said, Highguard becoming another “Concord” might not be possible at all. In fact, it might etch itself as a prime Game of the Year contender.

Whether the game is good or bad, we'll be able to judge it ourselves in just a few hours.
