Four Features We Would Love to See in Minecraft Dungeons 2

Minecraft Dungeons was one of the first ventures by Microsoft into unknown territory, stepping outside of the sandbox environment. A watered-down hack-and-slash, ultimately beloved by the community, has become a staple of changing genres while keeping key and fitting elements of the original IP.

An intermediate and addictive pick-up-and-play created a cult following, especially after quality of life patches and content updates came to a screeching halt in late 2022. It’s no wonder that when leaks started fueling talk online about a plausible sequel, crafters all around the world rejoiced and speculated.

If you were going to stop sustaining the community, why would a sequel be in place? While it’s still not confirmed, rumors only grow and expectation keeps growing fonder. Until an official announcement comes our way, here are four features that would make Minecraft Dungeons 2 a worthy successor.

1. A Fresh Main Storyline

The Arch Illager, a sorcerer manipulated by the corrupted magic of the dungeons, led the charge against thousands of players all across the globe. While it guaranteed all kinds of mobs translating equally, even creating the plot for variations to make their debut, it’s not often you see a franchise repeat villain in its sequel.

The quest to put an end to this reign of terror was the main vehicle to travel the world map until reaching the final boss in its castle. Maybe this format would allow another mob conquered by the same evil powers and, heck, get the Arch Illager on your side for once, like the Navi to our Links.

2. Transferable Character Data

Progress is the key to success in the first entry, so it wouldn’t be surprising to start from scratch in the second installment of the saga. However, bringing in the same vibe, skin, pets, and such to our second adventure would connect the dots beautifully to create this immersion and connection with the world and our characters.

Not only would it make for a fitting continuation, but this could really make or break the experience for returning players, a guaranteed influx for your first months post-release. Even if a timeskip is in place, an armor stand with our past skin will make do.

3. Presets and Cards

Metas are ever-changing, but once you find your preferred method of playing and your role in your party, it’s difficult to switch things around. The only variable is how many people you are playing with. Wouldn’t it be nice to have it all preloaded, ready to roll, instead of spending the first 10 minutes in Camp improvising against the dummy and seeing what sticks to the wall?

Inventory management is not the kindest in Minecraft Dungeons, so extra control for new and returning players will be well received, considering sequels are always seeking to improve successes and fix past mistakes.

4. More Multiplayer Content

Lastly, the best version of Minecraft Dungeons is the flow state between party members. It thrives in its multiplayer. The Tower, a series of non-canon floors with random weapons and rewards, was a hit success upon release as it catered to encapsulated multiplayer experiences.

If this release is bound to happen, I can’t see a better way to encourage the community than to enhance your online platform with goals, modes, and even PvP, something Minecraft Legends could’ve benefited from since its release.

Crossing my fingers under my cloak and armor, I could throw everything out the window if it means reviving one of the most surprising video games in the last 10 years, even if it’s a copy-and-paste version of its pandemic older sibling.
