Fortnite’s latest event brings one of the hottest Kpop sensations this year with Kpop Demon Hunters. HUNTR/X’s Rumi, Mira and Zoe will make their debut to Epic Games’ massive sandbox of content, bringing their superstardom into the game including Battle Royale.

Players can also acquire a myriad of KPop Demon Hunters items like Rumi’s signature sword, Derpy’s Teleport Mask, a Golden Honmoon Shield Bubble and a Ramyeon consumable. This is all great and all, but there’s just one major flaw: The collaboration event doesn’t include their music.

One of the strangest omissions to this crossover event is the lack of Jam Tracks included in its bundles. For context, Jam Tracks are licensed music that can be used in Fortnite Festival, the game’s rhythm game mode. It includes music from big artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd. Given that the hit Netflix show has thrived on its iconic songs, it’s bizarre that Netflix and Epic didn’t strike any deal to bring either of its songs to the game.

Songs like “Golden” would have been the obvious choice to bring to the crossover event, considering that this song has been dominating the Billboard charts for seven weeks, beating Chapelle Roan’s latest hit, “The Subway.”

KPop Demon Hunters has been a massive pop culture phenomenon since it came out on Netflix in August. It became one of Netflix’s most successful animated films, instantly dominating the social media space including platforms like TikTok and Instagram for its catchy songs including “Soda Pop” and “Takedown.”

There’s no explanation as to why there won’t be any KPop Demon Hunters licensed music as Jam Tracks, but it could be attributed to the game’s complicated licensing and copyright. Maybe Epic Games couldn’t afford to pay more for the collaboration apart from an Emote for Golden and How It’s Done rather than a full song.

Who knows? Maybe Epic might add the songs in the near future. But for now, this might be one of the biggest missed opportunities with Epic Games and its collaborations. The music in KPop Demon Hunters has always been its signature appeal, and having a collaboration event without it feels… weird.
