Tales of the Shire has been an interesting gaming topic, dividing fans of the cozy genre. Many critics claim that it’s too mundane and safe, with the subpar visuals not helping things. With all that being said, others are enjoying the game because it does everything they want with its simple concept.
One of these fans is LetzPlayK, who is genuinely enjoying the cozy game for what it is. On X, the user says that this Lord of the Rings spinoff is worth trying, and that you shouldn’t always listen to critics. It probably helps fans who are already big on the genre, but trying a game is always important before giving a final judgment.
Another fan enjoying the Tales of the Shire is Mira, who has been having a really good time with the game and doesn’t understand some of the hate it's getting. The cozy vibes of this game are at an all-time high for this user, who also called out fans for wanting more of that LOTR violence.
Maybe fans can enjoy this game if they stop comparing it to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor or those acclaimed LOTR movie tie-ins.
Players should be able to enjoy games without being heckled for their opinions, so enjoying this LOTR spinoff is far from the worst thing anyone can do. Granted, that doesn’t mean this game is flawless, as the title clearly has performance issues on Switch and Steam Deck. It’s not even the best-looking game out there, so these framerate drops are odd.
Still, cozy games like Animal Crossing are usually updated frequently and get better over time. We don’t think Tales of the Shire will get that much support in the end, but fans who just want to be a Hobbit in the Shire should get a kick out of this. More polish would have been nice, but maybe a future sequel could make things better.
