SBMM has been a big conversation topic among the Call of Duty community for the past few years. Although the system was present in the early days, its prominence became more evident with recent titles.
With Black Ops 7 launching soon, you might be wondering if SBMM is still going to be a factor in the game or if there will be any changes. We have all the information regarding this to clear all your questions.
What is SBMM?
Although the subject is familiar to many community members, some have probably never heard of it or just know too little. SBMM stands for Skill-Based Matchmaking and is a system that prioritizes skill over other factors (like connection latency or region) when creating lobbies or pairing players.

This system has been in the Call of Duty franchise for a long time, with rumors pointing since the days of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. However, the conversation intensified when Modern Warfare (2019) launched, as many players felt that the SBMM levels were significantly higher.
Does Black Ops 7 have SBMM?
Unlike previous titles, Treyarch confirmed that Black Ops 7 multiplayer will have a significantly lower SBMM system.
During the beta, the studio added an Open Moshpit playlist with minimal skill consideration in the matchmaking. After the positive feedback and players online begging for this to be implemented into the final product, they announced that open matchmaking with minimal skill consideration will be the standard when the game launches across all modes.
The studio also revealed that lobbies will not disband after ending a match. This means that, as long as there are enough players, the game will not try to put players into a new lobby after every game, allowing them to play with and against the same people more than once.
