Battlefield 6 is improving matchmaking to handle times with fewer players by adding bots.
According to details shared during a recent event in Hong Kong, the game will use AI-controlled bots to fill in whenever there aren’t enough players to start or maintain a match.
DICE developers explained this is mainly a backup plan to speed up game launches, not a permanent part of multiplayer.
Their focus is on keeping matches alive and accessible without forcing players to wait around.
They framed it as their way to keep matches accessible at all times, helping players connect quickly regardless of player count or location.
How Flexible Is the Bot System in Battlefield 6?
The feature also seems designed to help newer players ease into the game.

During the event, DICE’s Jac Carlsson gave an example of how bots might be used in custom game types, specifically within Battlefield 6’s Portal mode.
Players can design custom scenarios, using bots to act as opponents or allies for learning the mechanics or testing different rule setups.
However, there’s still some uncertainty over how advanced these AI bots really are.
The developers haven’t yet confirmed their behavior, skill level, or whether they’ll scale depending on player performance.
How Are Players Reacting So Far?
Not everyone’s thrilled—on social media, reactions range from cautious hope to harsh jokes, especially from fans who remember Battlefield 2042’s bot-heavy launch.

Some players joked that this is “GG already” because they’re worried about history repeating itself.
Many are upset that DICE hasn’t guaranteed the return of a proper server browser, something seen as key for multiplayer control.
Still, some fans seem fine with the feature if the bots only fill empty spots for a little while and aren’t permanent.
