Battlefield 6 Needs to Bring Back This Controversial 2042 Feature

Battlefield 6 is just months away, and the hype is at an all-time high thanks to its successful Open Beta and the special “Road to Battlefield 6” event in Battlefield 2042. The event includes a unique battle pass that even carries over to Battlefield 6’s big launch this October 10.

With all that said, many players are still hoping to see more than just new maps in Battlefield 6. Personally, I’d love to see the return of a quality-of-life gameplay mechanic introduced in Battlefield 2042: quick attachment switching, or simply put, the Plus System.

The plus system as seen in game.

In 2042, players could swap attachments on the fly with a single button press. It allowed for dynamic customization in every firefight and was essential for adapting to different situations by switching to the best attachments for the engagement.

It was one of 2042’s most interesting mechanics, albeit hated by the rest of the community. It added a layer of strategy to its chaotic 128-player game modes, despite a lot of players seeming to hate it. Many felt it broke immersion in what was supposed to be a grounded military shooter.

Personally? I want it back, but hear me out. Battlefield 6 could benefit from bringing it back, but with a twist. Instead of a large UI popping up on-screen, the system could be more diegetic, blending naturally into gameplay.

Battlefield 6 already features a wide range of attachments, and mastering the right loadout for each weapon will take time. In a fast-paced game, having the option to swap attachments quickly (like in 2042) would be invaluable.

Battlefield Studios could even enhance the mechanic by adding unique animations, such as the player character pulling a scope or grip from a pouch to attach it. This would keep immersion intact while giving players more flexibility in combat.

Right now, Battlefield 6 does include a quick menu for attachments, but it’s only in the spawn screen and must be set up beforehand rather than adapted in the moment. It’s a solid system, but the ability to make on-the-fly decisions would add another layer of strategy and excitement to firefights.

With the game just three months away, there may not be enough time to develop a fully diegetic attachment system before launch. But I’m hopeful it could return in some shape or form, since it opened up fresh ways to engage enemies and added real strategic depth to Battlefield’s gameplay.
