Battlefield 6: Is the Single-Player Campaign Alone Worth Buying the Game?

Battlefield 6 officially launches this October 10 and players are already looking forward to diving into the next-generation of first-person shooters. But while others are excited to hop into Battlefield 6’s multiplayer modes like Breakthrough, Conquest and Rush, some are also in it for its single-player campaign.

But the question is, will it be enough to warrant a Battlefield 6 purchase?

The single player campaign for Battlefield 6 isn’t too groundbreaking. Set 2 years into the future, it’s about an elite team of Marine Raiders who battle against a private military called Pax Armata trying to destabilize NATO. Players assume the role of the Dagger 13 squad, which include characters Hayden Carter (played by Damon Dayoub from NCIS) and Simone Espina (played by Ashley Reyes from the CW show Walker) among others. The squad will have to stop the mysterious Alexander Kincaid, played by Tony Curran, known for his roles in Doctor Who and the miniseries Roots.

Despite Battlefield 6’s single-player only lasting 9-10 hours, it’s a neat alternative before hopping into the game’s real meat, which is its multiplayer space. It’s great to witness a story-driven adventure without having to worry about sweaty players camping from a distance and just popping heads with sniper rifles.

Battlefield 6 has the first ever single-player campaign in a long time after it was completely absent from 2042. The last Battlefield to have it was V, and it was praised by many for its impressive set-pieces and writing. It was also one of the many reasons why 2042 fumbled, causing backlash among its massive playerbase.

Now back to the question. Would buying Battlefield 6 for its single-player campaign worth it? For most people, yes. Some would argue that Battlefield games have always thrived on its multiplayer space, but not many Battlefield 6 don’t have access to online subscription features like PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 5 or Game Pass with their Xbox consoles. Others would need to wait before they can save enough budget to shelf out an extra $10 or $30 (if you’re on Game Pass Ultimate) before they play with other players online.

Battlefield 6’s single-player campaign doesn’t have to be revolutionary, but it should complement the game’s multiplayer modes. However, it shouldn’t be the primary focus when it comes to a Battlefield game at all. While it’s all fun and games as you shoot down enemy AI and marvel at the linear level designs Battlefield Studios created, campaigns eventually lose their novelty once you’ve rolled its credits.

Videogames are getting more expensive every year, and buying Battlefield 6 for its single-player campaign alone isn’t feasible. It should only be bought if you’re planning to get into its multiplayer matches once you’re done with it.
