Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2 presents players with a difficult decision on whether to kill or save the evil Mizora, as the outcome of each choice isn’t always clear.

One of the most morally complex moments in the game, especially given Mizora’s connection to the companion Wyll and the potential rewards and consequences, this decision greatly impacts the gameplay.

So, what’s the best choice when it comes to Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2? Read on to find out.

Who is Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3?

An evil-aligned character introduced in Act 1, Mizora is a cambion in service of the Archdevil Zariel and the infernal patron of Wyll and plays a constant role in his story and character arc throughout the game.

She’s described as manipulative and mischievous, always seeking the best deals, which makes her either an ally or an enemy to the party.

These traits make it difficult to deal with Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3. But knowing she’s an evil character, it might seem best to get rid of her in Act 2—though the outcome may not be what players expect.

What Happens to Mizora in Act 2?

A projection of Mizora appears on the main bridge leading to Moonrise Towers in Act 2, asking the party to free an important asset of Zariel imprisoned inside.

She claims it’s a direct order for Wyll, warning that he’ll be sent to Avernus if he refuses to obey.

After getting through Moonrise Towers in Baldur’s Gate 3 and completing the first part of the Ketheric Thorm boss fight, the party will be able to explore the Mind Flayer Colony.

There, they’ll find Mizora trapped inside a Mind Flayer pod and must choose between annihilating her or setting her free.

What Happens When You Kill Mizora?

When you choose to kill Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2, she will die instantly, but the decision comes with major consequences.

Wyll will also die and be sent to Avernus to burn the moment Mizora is exterminated, as killing her breaks his contract. Once Mizora dies, Wyll perishes as well and is permanently removed from your party. If he’s currently in your group when you choose to kill her, you’ll witness a short cutscene where he burns to ashes.

While you can loot his ashes for all the gear and items he carried, Wyll’s death means you can no longer complete his companion questline. It also disrupts the progression of Karlach’s quests.

It’s also worth noting that Mizora will not remain permanently dead. As players may have learned after killing Yurgir, devils slain outside of Avernus simply return to the Hells. This means Mizora’s death sends her back there, killing Wyll in the process and enraging her further.

She later reappears in Act 3, though her attitude toward you will depend on whether you chose to kill or spare her. If she was killed, she’ll make rescuing Duke Ravengard from the Absolute cult much more difficult, and you’ll lose the opportunity to romance her.

Choosing to ignore Mizora’s pod also counts as killing her, even if you don’t actively press the kill button. You’ll receive a warning before entering the main encounter room, and once you proceed, Mizora will die inside the Mind Flayer pod, sending Wyll to become a Lemure in Avernus.

What Happens When You Save Mizora?

If you choose to save Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2, Wyll will survive and remain in your party. This decision also allows you to complete his story missions and unlock his ending with Karlach.

Mizora may be mischievous and manipulative, but freeing her makes her stay true to her bargain to release Wyll—though there’s a catch. A clause in the contract states that Wyll will only be released from her hold within six months, meaning it won’t happen immediately.

However, this also means you’ll continue to benefit from Wyll’s warlock powers with Mizora still serving as his patron.

If Mizora is freed from the Mind Flayer pod, players can request a reward from her as long as Wyll is part of the party.

You must pass a DC 14 Persuasion check, and if successful, she will reward you with the Infernal Rapier—a rare sword that features Planar Ally: Cambion, High Spellcasting, Melee Caster, Piercing Strike, Weakening Strike, and Flourish weapon actions.

Saving Mizora is the only way to obtain the Infernal Rapier in Baldur’s Gate 3. She can also be useful later when locating Duke Ravengard in Act 3 and provides additional support during the final battle.

After being saved, Mizora will occasionally appear with the party and unlock a possible romance scene with her during Act 3.

Evidently, saving Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2 is your best choice, given all the benefits that come with it.
