After years of speculation, Resident Evil 0 is reportedly next in line for a full modern remake.

Capcom is reportedly handling the remake under the working title Project Chamber, named after Rebecca Chambers.

Although Capcom hasn’t officially confirmed anything, several consistent leaks, insider tips, and casting evidence make a 2028 release window seem increasingly credible.

What Made Resident Evil 0 Stand Out in 2002?

Released on the GameCube back in 2002, Resident Evil 0 told the story leading directly into the Spencer Mansion outbreak.

It followed Rebecca Chambers, a rookie medic with S.T.A.R.S., and Billy Coen, an escaped convict forced into an uneasy alliance as the T-virus spread through the Ecliptic Express.

The game allowed players to swap between the two leads to handle puzzles, battles, and item management without using storage boxes.

While ambitious for its time, RE0 couldn’t fully escape the boundaries of the hardware it ran on.  Fans have long wanted a proper remake to give it the same treatment as Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4.

Who’s Reportedly Working on It?

According to insiders like Dusk Golem and outlets such as MP1st, Capcom has contracted Beyond Capture Studios for performance work—the same team behind Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Actor Jon McLaren, known for his role as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy (2021), lists Project Chamber as an upcoming AAA game in his professional credits.

Based on that, many believe he’s playing Billy Coen in the remake. Motion capture began in 2024, which shows the project has been in development for a long time.

Capcom is reportedly using an upgraded RE Engine focused on realistic visuals and performance-captured dialogue.

How Will the Story Change?

Sources say the remake will enhance visuals and rework the story to make it more cinematic.

Reports indicate the train conductor will initially help Rebecca but betray her once the outbreak begins.

He’s set to return later with a new mysterious figure who could have stronger links to Resident Evil’s lore.

The story still focuses on Rebecca and Billy’s struggle to survive. The remake aims to keep what worked while addressing pacing issues that once held the original back.

What’s the Expected Timeline for Capcom’s Upcoming Games?

If the current roadmap holds, Capcom’s release schedule may look like this:

Resident Evil: Requiem is confirmed as the next mainline game, set in Raccoon City with new protagonist Grace Ashcroft and possible appearances from Leon S. Kennedy.

The Code Veronica and RE0 remakes will likely serve as connective tissue between the early and modern storylines.

Capcom has stated that it considers remakes to be the best way to revisit its older titles. Each remake brings an old favorite back to life while updating it with modern visuals, audio, and mechanics.

Resident Evil 0 fits that approach with its dark atmosphere and strong lore connections.

Better partner controls, smoother inventory management, and upgraded cinematics could give it the comeback it deserves.
