The world of Gielinor has found a new home.

Runescape, the wildly popular free MMO, is moving to Steam to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

In an announcement on its site, developer Jagex revealed that the game will debut on Valve's platform on October 14, 2020.

The classic version, Old School Runescape, will follow in early 2021.

Jagex CEO Phil Mansell explained that “Jagex is on a mission to bring the RuneScape universe to more players globally. Following our games’ arrival on mobile stores, we are now expanding the availability of the desktop versions."

"Making them accessible to the Steam community is an important step in achieving this goal. We’re excited to see RuneScape debut on Steam from October 14th and look forward to Old School RuneScape’s arrival next year, as we enable even more gamers to access and explore our rich and engaging living game worlds.”

"As RuneScape approaches 20 years of operation as an ever-evolving living game, the franchise has welcomed almost 285 million player accounts to its online fantasy world of Gielinor – and reported its highest-ever player membership numbers earlier this year."

Players can already wishlist the game on Steam here.

The game had its highest ever number of daily active players in June, and Jagex will be able to use the Steam community hub to get further player feedback.

Membership packages can also be purchased through Steam, offering cosmetic good for players.

Old School Runescape has become just as popular, acting as a "classic" version of the game that feels just like a 2007 version of the MMORPG.

When it launches on Steam, it'll support both PC and Mac players.
