Bandai Namco's latest action RPG, Scarlet Nexus was revealed during Microsoft's May 2020 showcase and will task players with defending New Himuka from a mutant invasion.

With telekinesis and melee combat working in tandem, players can recruit new party members with unique abilities.

Here's everything we know.

What Is Scarlet Nexus?

As per the game's Steam listing:

In the far distant future, a psionic hormone was discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powers and changed the world as we knew it. As humanity entered this new era, deranged mutants known as Others began to descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains.

Highly resistant to conventional attack methods, extreme measures needed to be taken to battle the overwhelming threat and preserve humanity. Those with acute extra-sensory abilities, known as psionics, were our only chance to fight the onslaught from above. Since then, psionics have been scouted for their talents and recruited to the Other Suppression Force (OSF), humanity’s last line of defense.

With two playable protagonists, Scarlet Nexus offers two stories, alongside "Kinetic Psychic Combat".

This means players can swing a sword, as well as pull items from the environment to hurl at enemies.

Release Date

The game launches on June 25.

Story Trailer and Combat Trailers

Check out the game's "story reveal" below:

On April 26, Bandai Namco released two new trailers highlighting Scarlet Nexus' combat.

The first trailer shows off a mix of Yuito's powers and swordplay against a large enemy called Slippery Chinery.

It takes place in a hospital, with plenty of open space for maneuvering large objects and turning them into weapons.

The second features Kasane fending off smaller hordes of Others in a ruined museum.

She's using psychic powers almost exclusively, and it shows off how much coordination is involved in weaponizing the environment.

Platforms

Despite being announced at a Microsoft event, the game will come to PS4 and PS5, as well as Xbox One, Series S/X, and Windows PC.

Developer

The team at Bandai Namco is being led by Kenji Anabuki and Keita Iizuka, perhaps best known for their efforts on the Tales of Vesperia franchise.
