Xbox Planned on Breath of the Wild 2 Releasing Holiday 2020

Xbox believed the Breath of the Wild 2 release date would be holiday 2020, new documents from the Epic v. Apple trial show (courtesy of IGN).

That wasn’t the only major release Xbox thought Nintendo had up its sleeve.

The same document shows Xbox planned on the Bayonetta 3 release date and Shin Megami Tensei 5 release date being set for the same time frame, and the same for the Metroid Prime 4 release date.

There’s also a chunk blocked out from the document related to Microsoft’s own planned releases.

It shows there were several new Xbox games planned for holiday release, or at least holiday announcement, and several more for early 2021.

One area was blocked out for a holiday PS5 game too.

Of course, none of these announcements panned out for any of the three software giants.

IGN’s Rebekah Valentine notes that, while interesting, we shouldn’t read too much into Microsoft’s predictions.

Xbox knows what it’s plans are, Valentine said, but most knowledge of competitor plans is likely based on guesswork.

It’s not as if Nintendo would announce confidential information about some of its biggest exclusives to its biggest rivals, but still, it seems knowledge about how well these games are progressing is a closely held secret indeed.
