Arkane Austin had been a little quiet in recent years while the Lyon studio worked on Deathloop, but we now know that the team's next project is called Redfall - and involves slaying vampires in co-op with your friends.
With the team having previously worked on the likes of Prey, as well as contributing to the Dishonored franchise, there are plenty of reasons to be excited.
Here's everything we know about the new project.
Redfall Alpha Images Leaked - September 11, 2021
While fans have been waiting to see more about Arkane Studios' upcoming Redfall, perhaps this isn't quite the first look they'd anticipated. Over the weekend, images from an early development build of Redfall appeared online, so if you're not interested in looking just yet, beware of spoilers in the tweet below.
Showcasing characters, gameplay and the menus, its hard to gauge too much from these shots alone. Nevertheless, here's what we've seen:
id Software Assisting Development - June 25, 2021
It appears that Doom Eternal developer id Software is assisting with Redfall's development.
A LinkedIn post from id animator Jeff Senita has revealed that he has been assisting with "additional animation" for the vampire-slaying title.
The post has since been removed.
What Is Redfall?
According to the initial synopsis:
The quaint island town of Redfall, Massachusetts, is under siege by a legion of vampires who have blocked out the sun and cut the island off from the outside world. Trapped with a handful of survivors against diabolical enemies threatening to bleed the town dry, choose your hero from a diverse roster, grouping up with others to create the perfect team of vampire slayers. Redfall is an open-world co-op FPS being developed by Arkane Austin and will launch exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC in Summer 2022. Play it Day One with Xbox Game Pass.
The game's official site has some extra information, too.
According to the webpage, Redfall will blend "single and multiplayer options seamlessly".
Redfall will launch in Summer 2022.
Redfall is an Xbox Series X and S console exclusive, and will also be on PC.
It'll launch onto Xbox Game Pass on day one.
The four playable protagonists are the internet-famous paranormal investigator Devinder Crousley, biomedical engineer Layla Ellison, combat engineer Remi De La Rosa, and ex sharpshooter Jacob Boyer.
We have some thoughts on the game's multiplayer nature, though.
Local Multiplayer/Split Screen
Despite the game's co-op nature, it appears Redfall will not support split screen gameplay - a real shame for anyone looking to huddle up with a buddy and slay some vampires.
