Gears Developer Showcases Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo Off An Xbox Series X


You might recall that several weeks ago, Gears of War developer The Coalition announced they'd be showcasing an Unreal Engine 5 demo. Revealed during a Game Developers Conference last week, this hour long session was designed as an internal demonstration of UE5's capabilities.

While Epic Games had previously shown how it runs on a PS5 last May, we've now got an idea of how an Xbox Series X can handle it. Calling this demo "Alpha Point", The Coalition has released three videos following on from GDC, said to be running on an early version of UE5.

The first one you can see below, giving us a brief glimpse at what The Coalition's been able to pull off with new hardware. We've also got a look at a Character Rendering Test, alongside a "making of" video by Kate Rayner, Studio Technical Director. These are best viewed via a 4K monitor or TV for the full visual impact.

Though we don't know what The Coalition are working on next, now that Gears 5 support is coming to an end. They've previously denied reports that they're taking on a Star Wars project but whether it's Gears 6 or another project entirely, we'll keep you informed as we find out more.
