With Contraband now revealed by Microsoft at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, we've pulled together everything we know about the title and when we can expect to hear more.
Windows Central Report - June 14
Windows Central has revealed fresh information about the title, which is described internally as an "action-packed, fun and spectacular smugglers sandbox game".
The game is also heavily focused on vehicular combat, according to the report, and is a service game with a single-player campaign, too.
What Is Contraband?
Contraband was just announced by Microsoft on June 13, 2021. The title was one of the big headliners at the show and is an Xbox Series X|S exclusive, alongside PC, published by Xbox Games Studios Publishing.
Bringing us an open-world co-op game, it's coming to Game Pass as a day one release, though we don't have much more information at this time. We do know it's about a smuggler’s paradise, set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan.
Leaks And Rumours
The game was leaked ahead of E3 and teased by multiple journalists who tweeted an image of a Typhoon. Journalists like Jeff Grubb referred to the game as "Project Typhoon".
Details about the game, such as the co-op nature of it and the focus on action were also revealed ahead of time.
Contraband will be published by Xbox Games Studios Publishing, which is the division behind other titles like the upcoming As Dusk Falls and Tell Me Why. The game will be an Xbox and PC exclusive, with Microsoft helping publish the title.
Unfortunately, no release date has been provided yet for Contraband, but it is slated for sometime in 2022.
The game was revealed at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase during E3 2021 with a CGI trailer, which you can see below:
It isn't clear when we will see gameplay for Contraband, but sometime later this year seems likely, possibly at The Game Awards or another big showcase Xbox is planning to attend.
