VCT Masters 3 Berlin: G2 Esports Take #1 Seed From Group D

G2 Esports has successfully secured the first place seed from Group D going into the elimination stages of Masters 3 Berlin. Their strength and resilience over two maps proved why they are the best in Europe and can go toe to toe with NA's best.

This was the second match between G2 and Sentinels in the double round-robin format. G2 lost the first match 2-1, but were able to take a map off Sentinels.

G2 Esports selected Icebox for their pick, and Sentinels went ahead with Spilt. Both of these teams were looking to grab the #1 seed, and G2 proved why they are the best team from Europe in Masters 3 Berlin.

Map 1: Icebox

The first match opened on the frozen Icebox, where G2 came out all guns blazing. Never has a Phoenix metaphor so aptly personified in VALORANT's Esports history.

The European giants took an outstanding 7-0 lead to show who is the boss around this map. Sentinels had no answer, and with a broken eco, it was impossible to target a comeback.

G2 Esports were merciless in their approach as they only allowed Sentinels to take 3 rounds off them. Incidentally, all of these three rounds came in the first half, and Sentinels failed to win anything during the second half. The final score came down to a resounding 13-3 win for G2.

Cista "keloqz" Wassim, and Žygimantas "nukkye" Chmieliauskas from G2 Esports completely locked down Sentinels' rotation from both flanks. They closed off the middle of the map and went ahead for aggressive lurks which ripped Sentinels apart.

In the end, keloqz had a resounding 23 kills to take the match MVP and the first map in favour of G2 Esports.

Map 2: Split

Split was Sentinels map pick, and commonly recognized as their comfort zone in Masters 3 Berlin. Both TenZ and ShahZam picked duelists to lead the counter-charge from the defending champions.

Regardless, G2 were in the mood to create history, and they did that in style by winning the first two rounds on the map. This naturally forced Sentinels to rethink their approach who managed to get only four rounds in Attack.

The score at the first half ended with an 8-4 lead for G2 Esports. Sentinels started brilliantly in the second half by winning the first six rounds easily. However, that was not going to last too long, as G2 refurbished their economy and came back with four consecutive round wins.

This completely shattered Sentinels composure and forced them to fall apart in the crucial moments of the match. Auni "AvovA" Chahade wrapped up the map for G2 Esports with a brilliant 26-kill MVP performance.

The match ended with G2 Esports securing the first seed from Group D, with a reverberating 13-11 scoreline against the Masters 2 Reykjavik champions. G2 Esports prevailed over Sentinels with a 2-0 scoreline, to hand them their first defeat in Masters 3 Berlin Group D.
