How to Unlock and Craft the Blast Furnace in Valheim

To get the blast furnace in Valheim, you need to unlock the recipe first, then find the resources needed to build it. The first of these is harder than the second, but neither are completely easy.

How to Unlock the Blast Furnace

You can unlock the Blast Furnace by killing the fourth boss Moder and building an Artisan table. Killing Moder will require you to find three Dragon Eggs first to summon him, found at the highest points of the mountain biome, but once you've beaten him you'll get a Dragon's Tear, used to create the Artisan Table. The Blast Furnace should be craftable from there.

How to Craft the Blast Furnace

Once you have the Artisan Table, you can craft a Blast Furnace from there. You'll need the following ingredients and resources:

  • 20 Stone
  • 5 Surtling Core
  • 10 Iron
  • 20 Fine Wood

Using the Blast Furnace

The Blast Furnace is used to turn high tier ores into their respective ingots.

For example, the furnace can turn Black Metal Scrap into Black Metal ingots or Flametal Ore into Flametal Ingots. You'll need to use a source of fuel (e.g. wood) to do so. These ingots can then be used to craft the respective weapons and armour for you to take into battle.

Now that you've got the Blast Furnace, you can really start forging forward. For more on the game be sure to check out our guide on the best seeds. Elsewhere there’s our look at farming Silver.
