Do I Need Xbox Live To Play The Ascent?

Microsoft has been hyping up The Ascent as a big multiplayer experience with an awesome futuristic setting reminiscent of Cyberpunk 2077 and some Diablo-like combat, so the fact that Xbox fans can already pre-load this game is pretty great.

As fans anticipate the big July 29 release date for The Ascent, there are a couple of fans who are worried that you will need Xbox Live to simply play the game since multiplayer has been the aspect they’ve pushed the most, so we can all see the concern.

Do You Need Xbox Live To Play The Ascent?

Fortunately, you only need Xbox Live for online multiplayer so fans of The Ascent who want to focus on local co-op or the single-player campaign can play without worry.

Xbox games that require Xbox Live are usually multiplayer-only so games like The Ascent, which has both single-player and multiplayer, have nothing to worry about, though we sort of understand the concern.

Admittedly, there are a couple of multiplayer-only games that don’t require Xbox Live due to them being free-to-play, like Fortnite and Apex Legends, among others.

Paid multiplayer games like Overwatch and the upcoming Battlefield 2042 will need Xbox Live for sure so this won’t be going away anytime soon.

Still, we’re glad that The Ascent isn’t a multiplayer-only game, so any gamers that happen to have an Xbox One or Xbox Series X but don’t have Xbox Live can still experience what the action RPG has to offer.

Let’s hope that The Ascent lives up to the hype since this looks like a very good game that a lot of people will enjoy.

The Ascent is coming to the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
