Sniper Elite has been a successful franchise for developer and Rebellion and it is arguably what they are known for. After a few years of branching off and developing other titles, the company is set to return to the franchise with Sniper Elite 5. Here is everything we know about it.
Latest News And Details
Rebellion confirmed back in 2019 that development on Sniper Elite 5 was underway. At the start of 2020, a member of Rebellion's PR, Sadie Flayeh, tweeted out that there would be news on the next main Sniper Elite entry in 2020.
But, now 2020 has now come and gone, Sniper Elite 5 still hasn't been announced, likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying development on the game as the team adjusted to working from home.
There haven't been any hints as to when we can expect a reveal for Sniper Elite 5, but our best guess is that it is revealed at E3 2021 on Microsoft's stage or at Sony's digital show (which they are expected to hold).
If development has been severely affected by COVID-19 then we might see it later this year at Gamescom Opening Night Live or The Game Awards.
Unfortunately, we know literally nothing about the upcoming Sniper Elite game as it hasn't been announced and no details have leaked so far.
However, we expect it to be a major evolution of the franchise's gameplay as it has been 4 years since Sniper Elite 4 released. We also expect it to take us to a new exotic location as the last few entries have done, rather than a typical war-torn cityscape.
The release date for Sniper Elite 5 hasn't been hinted at yet, but we would hazard a guess that it will release in 2022 or later. COVID-19 has definitely affected development on the game and with Rebellion still holding back a reveal trailer you shouldn't expect to be able to play Sniper Elite for a while.
It is expected that Sniper Elite 5 will be a cross-gen release, coming to both PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, and of course, PC.
However, if the game is still a few years from release then it may just release on next-generation consoles and PC.
Other Sniper Elite Games
On top of developing Sniper Elite 5, Rebellion is working with Just Add Water on Sniper Elite VR, a complete sniping experience in virtual reality.
The game is set to release sometime soon and will come to PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and the Valve Index.
We haven't heard much about the game recently, but a gameplay trailer was released last September, which you can see below.
