Psychonauts 2 Runs Better on Xbox Series S Than PS5

Psychonauts 2 performance on PS5 takes a bit of a hit compared to performance on Xbox Series X and even Series S.

WellPlayed (spotted by GamesRadar) compiled a list of Psychonauts 2 performance differences that shows just how big a hit it is - which, admittedly, isn't huge.

On Xbox Series X, Psychonauts 2 offers 4K support at 60 frames per second or 120 fps at 1440p. Series S supports 2880 x 1620 at 60fps as its maximum, with a 120fps option at 1080p.

PS5, however, supports 2560 x 1440 at 60fps only, as it's running the PS4 version with a boost only for framerate.

Xbox Series X|S versions also feature HDR and Visual Refresh Rate support. All this is thanks to the next-gen Xbox's backwards compatibility boosts, a feature the PS5 lacks.

Last-gen systems are all locked at 30fps, though the resolution varies.

  • PS4 - 1920 x 1080
  • PS4 Pro - 2560 x 1440
  • Xbox One - 1920 x 1080
  • Xbox One X - 3840 x 2160

The only limit for PC players is, of course, whatever hardware limits you have.

Psychonauts 2 releases August 25 and will launch on Game Pass for Xbox and PC the same day.
