Sony Begin Sending Beta Invites For PS4 System Update 9.0

Sony's launched updates for both of their current consoles this week, although both are only available for beta testers currently.

While PS5's received a significant update that implemented expandable SSD storage, 3D audio for normal TVs and other quality-of-life changes, PS4's got a new system update too.

Sony Begin Sending Beta Invites For PS4 System Update 9.0

Calling this Update 9.0, those reports come from ResetEra member Nano, who confirmed the PS4 beta firmware 9.0 reportedly implements these new additions:

  • You can now view PS5 trophies on PS4
  • Messages: If you’re the owner of a group, you can now delete messages in it
  • If you block someone, you can now select if you want to leave the group only you and the other player are in
  • If a child requests communication-functions from a game, the parent will get a notification via the PS4-system and the PlayStation app

It's no surprise to see Sony hasn't given up on PS4 just yet, which reached 115.9 million sales back in February 2021. With games like God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7 arriving on Sony's older console too, there's still life left in this older machine.
