PlayStation Has Made Astro Bot Developer Team Asobi A Standalone Studio

Team Asobi, developer of Astro's PlayRoom and Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, will now operate as a standalone studio.

The developer, previously part of Sony's Japan Studio prior to a restructuring earlier this year, "is now spreading its wings and growing bigger" - according to a new PlayStation Blog post.

Speaking in the post, Nicolas Doucet, the studio's director and creative director explained that "this is a very exciting time for the team, and we are very much looking forward to this next chapter".

"While we are growing and challenging bigger things, our mission at heart remains the same as ever: bring you PlayStation magic, innovation and put smiles on your faces with fun, colorful games for all ages."

While the studio's first title, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, sits as one of PlayStation VR's finest titles, its follow-up, the PS5 pack-in Astro's Playroom, remains one of my favourite experiences on the console - skip it at your peril.

The news comes alongside Sony's confirmation that God of War: Ragnarok would be delayed to 2022, as well as a new project based on a new IP being in development at Days Gone studio Bend.
