During Sony's Game & Network Services Segment at their investor relations presentation today, the company announces that they have seen record earnings for a transition year, as well as, many other impressive stats.
Despite selling at a loss for most of the year, the company expects the break even on the standard edition of the PS5 next month.
PS5 has reached 7.8 million units sold during its launch year which overtakes its predecessor at 7.6 million. These numbers come at a time where the world is seeing a shortage of consoles as well, with many people expecting the demand to grow in the coming years.

The console gaming industry is up 7% and Sony sees roughly the same increase in sales, during this fiscal year.

There is a reduction of the importance the console plays in revenue structure, where the console is down to 20% bringing more importance onto software, services, and peripherals.
Sony has outlined new growth areas that they will be exploring which include more bringing more releases to PC and tapping into the mobile market.
Free-to-play games are also on the rise contributing 25% of sales made on the Playstation store.
Playstation Plus reaches its highest subscription number ever, reaching 47.6 million, which is over 6 million higher than in 2019.
Playstation continues to grow and the 2020 fiscal year saw great things for the company. With more people getting their hands on a PS5, and more exciting titles still to launch this year, they expect numbers to continue to rise.
