The new PS Plus January 2021 free PS4 and PS5 games have been revealed by Sony PlayStation.

For those who missed the news, you'll soon be able to download two PS4 titles and one PS5 title.

This includes action-adventure Shadow of the Tomb Raider and action RPG Greedfall on PS4 as well as the PS5 version of Maneater.

Keen to know more about each game? No problem we've got you sorted with a quick rundown with more info about each game as well as a quick fly-by of the games Metacritic review scores.

First, let's take a look at the games in the new PlayStation Access trailer.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Fight, explore, craft and survive amid the dense and perilous jungles of South America in Lara Croft’s biggest adventure to date as you race to save the world from a Maya apocalypse. Gather resources and master the unforgiving terrain. Outgunned and outnumbered, you need to use your surroundings to your advantage; strike from the shadows and use mud to camouflage your presence. Use advanced traversal techniques to reach long-forgotten tombs and negotiate deadly puzzles.

In this stunning action RPG, explore uncharted new lands as you set foot on a remote island seeping with magic, and filled with riches, lost secrets, and fantastic creatures. You’ll have complete freedom to shape your abilities, spells and skills and decide whether to complete objectives with combat, diplomacy, deception, or stealth. Forge this new world’s destiny, as you befriend or betray companions and entire factions.

Maneater (PS5 Version)

Experience the ultimate power fantasy as the apex predator of the seas – a terrifying shark! Maneater is a single player, open world action RPG (ShaRkPG) where you are the shark. Starting as a small shark pup you are tasked with surviving the harsh world while eating your way up the ecosystem. To do this you will explore a large and varied open world encountering diverse enemies – both human and wildlife. Find the right resources and you can grow and evolve far beyond what nature intended, allowing the player to tailor the shark to their play style. Eat. Explore. Evolve.

All three games are available to download on Tuesday January 5, until Monday, February 1.

PS Plus January 2021 - Are The Games Any Good?

Whilst you might be keen to add them to your subscription, the question of whether you should download them is another quandary? If they're rubbish, you might prefer to save your hard drive space for something more important (or most probably yet another Call of Duty patch or the next Cyberpunk 2077 1.07 Update).

So to help you decide, here's a recap of the games Metacritic scores and some choice comments from the leading reviews across the industry.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Metacritic rating - 75/100

Metro Games Central"It’s only a small step forward from the last game but this is the most successful attempt so far to modernise Tomb Raider, even if the storytelling still has problems."

Push Square

"Shadow of the Tomb Raider shines in exploration, offering stunning scenic views that enrich the pursuit to walk among the greater open world. It's filled with rewarding puzzle platforming tombs that emphasize the return of new and old gameplay mechanics. However, the same can't be said for the story, as Lara's journey is concluded with a tired and tried formula that never reaches the potential it displays in certain cutscenes, despite its promising beginning."

Metacritic rating - 72/100

Official PlayStation Magazine

"An incredibly flawed RPG that we can’t stop playing. Whether you choose to unite or drive apart the island, playing this one feels like curling up under a moth-eaten but still cosy blanket."

Game Informer

"GreedFall’s stories, world, and wealth of choices are fun to explore and can legitimately be great at times, but the problematic combat, reliance on conversation for quests, and lack of polish over everything hold it back, but Spiders is on to something and isn’t far off from having its first truly notable RPG. Much like Bethesda’s early Elder Scrolls titles and CD Projekt Red’s first Witcher game, GreedFall feels like it’s the beginning of something great, but it just isn’t quite there."

Metacritic rating - 68/100

GamesRadar+"This is no worthy exploration of man's cruelty to the natural world, and I suspect marine biologists would have something to say about much of the science, but it's the perfect distraction from a world gone mad, and weirdly therapeutic. When you're not filling the water with blood or launching an innocent human into the air with a flick of your tail, the waters are a pretty playground, and there's always mischief to be made in the resorts, water parks, and marinas. Just don't dob me into the killer whale I sponsored when I was 12."

The Sixth Axis"Maneater is a crazy concept come to life, Tripwire somehow managing to cobble together a silly ShaRkPG that is more than just a ten-minute novelty. There’s no denying it’s an exotic catch, but when it comes to quality open-world action games, there’s plenty more fish in the sea."
