Pokemon Sword and Shield: Hyper Training Guide, IVs & Bottle Caps

Pokemon Sword and Shield have a special feature for your Pokemon, once you level them up all the way to the maximum level.

Hyper Training is where by your try to maximize your Pokemon's IV's (Individual Stats), this can be done at the Battle Tower once you complete the story mode and is a great way for competitive Pokemon players to get the most out of their Pokemon.

What Is Hyper Training & IVs?

Before we tell you how to do it, we need to establish what it is.

Hyper Training is a method of Pokémon training that allows the player to maximize one or more of a Pokémon's IVs through intensive training. This feature was introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon.

IVs is an abbreviation for 'Individual Values' also know as Individual Strengths. They are instrumental in determining the stats of a Pokémon, being responsible for the large variation in stats among untrained Pokémon of the same species.

Each of the six battle stats has an IV associated with it, (HP, attack, defence, speed, special attack, special defence) with that IV coming into calculation alongside the Pokémon's base stats, Nature, and EVs to determine the actual stat number.

A Pokémon's IVs are fixed when it is generated by the game and cannot be changed unless Hyper Training.

A Pokémon's stats are determined according to the above formulas.

Bottle Caps

Once you enter the Battle Tower you are going to want to talk to the employee behind the desk in the Galar Region uniform, this is where you will be able to train your Pokemon's IVs.

However, you will need bottle caps to do so, there are two types of bottle caps: the standard bottle cap and the gold variant.

In order to obtain these bottle caps, you will need to get 25 BP from successfully defeating trainers at the Battle Tower, from there you can buy the standard bottle caps.

The regular bottle caps will allow you to LVL up one specific IV for your Pokemon and the gold variant will LVL up all your Pokemon IV's
