Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX includes Chikorita as one of the 12 starter Pokemon that you can choose to start with.

If this starter Johto Pokemon is your choice in the new Mystery Dungeon game, here's our guide!

Chikorita Guide

The Generation 2 grass-type is available as the player or partner through the main game.

Usually, Chikorita is chosen if the personality results are Docile (for females) in nature.

It has normal mobility, meaning it cannot traverse through water, lava and cloud tiles and walls without the assistance of a mobility-enhancing item or a certain IQ skill.

As Chikorita is a grass type, he will be weak to fire, ice, flying, poison and bug type Pokemon, meaning you should pair it with a ground, fire or electric type such as Cubone, Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic or Pikachu.

How To Get Chikorita

Chikorita can be chosen at the start of the game as either the player or partner.

Chikorita can be recruited exclusively at Joyous Tower with a recruit rate of 11.4%.

You will come across a Lv9 Chikorita with a rarity of:

  • 8th floor (40.00%)
  • 9th-10th floor (25.81%)
  • 11th floor (20.52%)

Evolving Chikorita

Evolution does not play a massive part in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, so it is perfectly ok to keep Chikorita as he is.

Although stats do not increase from evolution, moves can vary once it evolves into Bayleaf or Meganium.

If you do wish to evolve Chikorita, you will need to finish the main story and enter the Luminous Cave - be sure to check our evolution guide for more details.
