Netflix Reveals First Trailer For New Pokémon Movie

The Pokémon Company has revealed the first official trailer for Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle. Set in the Forest of Okoya, Ash meets Koko (no relation to the Tapu - we think), a human child raised by the mythical Pokémon Zarude.

Like some sort of Nintendo version of the Jungle Book or Tarzan, the movie sees Ash, Pikachu, Koko, and Zarude defend the forest against a giant tree-cutting robot. Oh, and Zarude can talk, by the way.

If that wasn't enough to tempt you into watching the 23rd film in the Pokémon franchise, then perhaps the trailer can.

Netflix also revealed the release date for the movie, which comes out on the streaming service on October 8. The film was released in cinemas in Japan on Christmas Day in 2020, but this will be the first time it has been available elsewhere in the world.

There were a few events that supported the initial launch of Secrets of the Jungle, offering Zarude codes that players could redeem in Pokémon Sword and Shield if players bought a ticket, and the Pokémon Company is planning something similar this time around.

Trainers who register for Pokémon Trainer Club emails by September 25, 2021, will receive a Pokémon Trainer Club email containing a distribution code for Zarude and shiny Celebi on October 7, 2021. There will also be a Pokémon GO event tying in with the film's release.

While it would have been great to see a new Pokémon film at theatres, Netflix releases are an inevitability of films during the coronavirus pandemic. It's nice that the movie offers some escapism to beautiful forests while we watch from the comfort of our own homes.

And while Ash doesn't actually say the words "jungle is massive" in the trailer, he does say "the jungle - it's huge" which is close enough for us.
