Pokémon Players Are Sharing Their Dumbest Fails

We've all had a nightmare or two when playing games, even if we don't like to admit it. Whether you whiffed your shots in Apex Legends or accidentally killed your companion in Skyrim, it's fine. We've all been there!

In the spirit of amnesty, Pokémon players took to Reddit to share their very worst experiences playing the monster catching RPGs. As well as making OG players feel incredibly old by reminiscing about playing Pokémon X as a child, the sheer number of players who wasted their Master Balls on Caterpies or saved right after fainting a Legendary Pokémon is staggering - and most seem to be on elder siblings' save files.

With Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl arriving later this year and Pokémon Legends: Arceus set to bring a whole new generation of fans to the series, the fails will only continue. However, we picked through the Reddit thread to find our favourite f*ck-ups so far. And there's some absolute gold here.

Pokémon Players Share Their Dumbest Fails

A few players didn't quite understand the assignment when it comes to evolving their Pokémon. User UziRobles leveled up their Roselia all the way to 60 before realising they needed a Shiny Stone, and they weren't the only ones.

Other players were confused by the screen shake that used to occur when one of your Pokémon was poisoned. If you're too young to remember, the whole screen of your GameBoy shook to show your Pokémon had lost a point of health every few steps you took. Yes - your Pokémon could even faint just from walking around while poisoned. But it seems this mechanic was poorly explained, as many players thought their game had glitched or broken and overwrote their saves to "fix" their games.

As well as countless shiny fails and accidental starter releases, there were some less common problems that players ran into. This particular issue is something I identify with, having also named my rival in Pokémon Silver "???" - it's what they told you their name was, after all!

Other players just get a bit stuck. And when you're stuck, there's only one thing to do. Grind.

At least TheKingJest admits they have no idea what they're doing. And other players were so young when they first picked up a Pokémon game that they didn't even know how to read - which comes with its own, obvious, limitations. Or at least, we assume they were too young to read...

But our favourite, the absolute dumbest thing anyone has ever done in a Pokémon game, is this:

Being unable to leave your house is unforgiveable, no matter what age you are. Not to throw shade at someone we assume was a child, but there's not a lot of Pokémon you can catch from the safety of your mom's house. We're honestly amazed that bluepancake69 stuck with the series after such a huge setback so early in their trainer career.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done in your Pokémon career? Although we doubt you can top being unable to leave the tiny house that you start the game in.
