If you’ve been playing the New Pokémon Snap game, you’ll know that to get the best pictures you’ll need all the abilities and items that you can get, able to provoke special reactions from the Pokémon in the wild. We’ll show you how to unlock all items, abilities and Illumina orbs in the New Pokémon Snap, as well as how best to use them.
How to Unlock All Items and Abilities in New Pokémon Snap
To unlock all items and abilities in the New Pokémon Snap, you simply need to progress the story campaign to certain points where they need to be given to you. We’ve laid out how to get them all and where you’ll need to be below. Minor spoilers to follow!
|Item||How to Unlock||Approx. Time in Campaign|
|Fluffruit||Take a photo of Illumina Meganium in Florio Nature Park.||1-2 hours|
|Illumina Orbs||Take a photo of a Crystabloom when requested by Professor Mirror in the Founja Jungle (Night).||3-4 hours|
|Melody Player||Reach Research Level 2 for Founja Jungle (Night).||4-6 hours|
|Neo-One Turbo||Take a photo of Illumina Volcarona in Fireflow Volcano.||6-8 hours|
|Burst Mode||Complete the campaign.||10-12 hours|
It’s worth mentioning that while you’ll get Illumina Orbs early on, they’ll only work in the Florio Nature Park. As you progress through the game, they’ll become more versatile until you’re able to use them anywhere, with different colours associated with different locations.
Items and Abilities Explained
We’ll explain below the different function of all the items you’ll get, and how you can use them as effectively as possible in gameplay.
Throw them near Pokémon to lure them out and get them to eat for a higher-ranked shot. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes it can help to throw them into dens, caves or burrowed holes.
Throwing them at Pokémon can prompt the Illumina condition for a better photo. You can also throw them at Crystabloom flowers.
This is used to wake up Pokémon from sleep or sometimes make them dance. Best used on resting or placid Pokémon to get a reaction out of them.
A booster for the NEO-One used to increase your speed through a route. Basically used if you’re trying to get a certain picture but don’t want to spend too long at a location otherwise.
