Meganium’s Pal Request Guide for New Pokémon Snap

To complete the Meganium’s Pal request, you need to head to Florio Park’s Illumina Spot to find the Illumina Meganium again. Unfortunately, at this point you seem to be at the mercy of a random number generator, at least from what we could deduce. Meganium has to take a certain path that diverts from its usual route, and while this is triggered by certain things the player does, it’s not guaranteed that any of them will work. However, here’s the potential options we found to get it to happen:

How to Get Meganium to Hoothoot

  • After the first Crystabloom Flower, you can throw Illumina Orbs up on the cliff to get Shaymin to leap down, assuming you’ve completed the campaign and unlocked legendary Pokémon. Shaymin will jump onto Meganium’s head, potentially altering its route.
  • Throwing an Illumina Orb at the second Crystabloom flower can trigger the new route, provided it’s glowing when Meganium bends down to smell it.
  • There’s also a small chance that Meganium will spawn on the right side of the player, awake rather than asleep. When this happened, Meganium wound up at the tree for us, so it’s possible this helps the chances of it happening, or even guarantees it. Try the other two triggers regardless.

How to Get Meganium’s Pal Hoothoot

Meganium’s Pal Hoothoot is in the large purple tree after the second Crystabloom flower. This is the tricky bit - you can get Hoothoot to fall out of the tree by throwing six Fluffruit at the upper branches, landing them firmly in the leafy section. You’ll know if you’re doing it right because Combee will start to fall out too before Hoothoot does.

You need Hoothoot to fall out of the tree at the same time as Meganium pulls level with the trunk, on the opposite side with the tree between you and Meganium. If done right, Hoothoot will fall to the ground and Meganium will look startled, which is the moment for you to take the picture! Meganium has a couple of seconds where it looks shocked, and that’s your window to complete the request. Fail and you’ll have to start over.

Meganium’s Pal Rewards

There’s actually no rewards for passing this, with the exception that getting a photo of Meganium’s shocked face is accepted as a four-star photo. There are other ways to get a four-star photo, but this counts as well.
