Pokemon Go fans can look forward to facing Mega Gengar in Mega Raids, as Mega Venusaur is rotated out.

The change will take place on October 23 at 6 PM PDT, and you'll be able to battle Mega Venasaur more regularly until then.

Of course, Mega Gengar presents its own challenges, and that means you'll want to ensure your Pokemon party is prepped for the battle.

Mega Gengar Counters

Mega Gengar is a Ghost and Poison-type with resistance to Fighting, Grass, Fairy, Poison, Bug and Normal-type Pokemon.

Here's a list of Pokemon and their moves that counter Gengar, but be warned – they aren't easy to come by.

  • Mewtwo - Confusion (Fast Move) + Shadow Ball (Charge Move)
  • Origin Giratina - Shadow Claw (Fast Move) + Shadow Ball/Ominous Wind (Charge Move)
  • Mega Houndoom - Snarl (Fast Move) + Foul Play/Crunch (Charge Move)

For backup, we recommend Victini, Excadrill, Chandelure, Rhyperior, Groudon, Garchomp, Metagross, Darkrai, Hydreigon and even the standard version of Gengar.
