Pikmin Bloom, Niantic’s Latest Mobile Game, Has Begun Rolling Out

Pikmin Bloom, a new augmented-reality (AR) game, begins rolling out today for Android and iOS users worldwide. Developed by Niantic and Nintendo, that's based on the Pikmin series, which debuted 20 years ago.

Centred around player interactions with their Pikmins, they'll leave trails of petals behind you whilst walking. These can then be turned in for rewards. As seen in the trailer for Pikmin Bloom, creator Shigeru Miyamoto said:

“For both me and everyone at Niantic, helping this app take shape has been a new experience and lots of fun. My hope is that everyone will be able to create lasting memories together with Pikmin.“

John Hanke, Niantic's founder and CEO, also expressed the game's aim is to get players exercising and go outside through this walking aspect, similar to their previous project - Pokémon Go - letting their Pikmin explore around. His statement reads as:

“I’m a huge believer in the power of walking and that’s why at Niantic we want to inspire people to go outside, explore their neighborhoods and have fun at the same time. But even though the benefits of walking are clear for physical and mental health, we know it’s not always easy to get up off the couch. We think Pikmin are the perfect creatures to help.”

Pikmin Bloom is available for Android and iOS users, beginning with players from Australia and Singapore. A UK release is likely soon, as evidenced by a tweet from Nintendo of Europe. Make sure to follow us for more gaming news and updates.
