How to Find Fingerprints

Fingerprints - or occasionally handprints - will be left behind by a ghost if they interact with something in the environment. For example, any of the following actions will cause a ghost to leave behind a mark:

  • Opening or closing a door.
  • Turning a light switch on or off.
  • Knocking on or touching a window.

With this in mind, there are three areas in which you should be looking for fingerprints: doors, windows, and light switches.

On the Prison map, fingerprints can also be found in the two following additional areas on cell doors:

  • The horizontal bars.
  • The steel keyholes.

Keep the above in mind if you're trying to challenge yourself with a higher difficulty! And remember, not all ghost types will leave behind fingerprints. So, if you keep checking an area with little success, you can assume it's time to move on to try the next piece of equipment, such as the Parabolic Microphone.

In terms of what equipment you'll need to find fingerprints, your eyes alone sadly won't be enough. Fingerprints will only show up when cast under UV light, so you'll need to make sure you or one of your team brings along a UV Flashlight or a Glowstick. Once you've ultimately found some fingerprints, don't forget to snap a picture using the Photo Camera to automatically pop the evidence into your journal.
