Overwatch Summer Games 2021: Release Date, Skins, Modes, Maps and Everything We Know

UPDATE: Assuming Overwatch follows it's usual pattern, we imagine that we will see another new skin revealed later this evening, around 7pm BST. So stay tuned for more info.

[Original Story] Despite the announcement of Overwatch 2, the follow-up to Blizzard's 2016 mega-hit, there's plenty more to come from the first title.

We know that no further characters are coming, but events will continue - and that includes in-game events, likely including Summer Games.

We'll update this as we hear more, but expect to be sunning yourself with your favourite skins equipped in early August.

It's also worth keeping in mind that the Tokyo Olympics is scheduled to start on July 23 running until August 8. So it's quite possible we see a launch in line with the real world Summer Olympics too.

Overwatch Summer Games 2021 Modes

Sure, we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, but it's quite likely that Lucioball will return.

'Team up to boop the ball into the opponent’s goal. The team that scores the most points before time runs out wins the game,' Blizzard says.

Last year also saw Lucioball Remix added.

'We’re kicking a curveball your way with Lúcioball Remix! In this faster, more chaotic version of Lúcioball, two balls are in play the entire time and bonus balls worth extra points will periodically spawn around the arena. Be quick on your feet and net more goals than your opponents to win!'

Overwatch Summer Games 2021 Skins

Of course, the reason many will log in for the event will be to earn all new skins for their favourite character.

Based on the trailer we know for certain that Symmetra, Ashe and Mei all definitely have new skins. Whilst we don't know if they are legendary or epic skins, we know that one is called 'Mermaid Symmetra'.

The trailer also heavily teases new skins for Sigma, Winston, Pharah and Orisa. Online players are suggesting that Orisa and Sigma are getting some Legendary Skins, while Winston and Pharah will get Epic Skins.

Intriguingly Echo is completely AWOL from the trailer, but maybe that's a sign that she too is in line for a new legendary skin, we'll find out for certain soon enough.
