Overwatch Executive Producer Set To Leave Blizzard On Friday

As first reported on by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Overwatch Executive Producer Chacko Sonny will be leaving the company at the end of the week after 5 years on the Overwatch team.

Sonny has not given any comment on the reasoning for departing the company, but in a letter to colleagues describes his time at the company as "an absolute privilege and one of the best experiences of my career."

Newly appointed Blizzard co-leaders Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra described Sonny as "a thoughtful leader" and thanked him for his service to the company and the Overwatch franchise.

Sonny's exit comes among many other high-profile departures including Blizzard's Chief Legal Officer earlier this week.

Overwatch Executive Producer Set To Leave Blizzard On Friday

This is a huge blow to the Overwatch franchise as only 5 months ago Director and much loved Blizzard figure Jeff Kaplan also left the company.

Blizzard President J. Allen Brack also stood down during the backlash from the State of California Lawsuit, seeing the start of many Executive roles at Blizzard change hands.

Overwatch 2 no doubt has taken a hit from recent high-profile departures, however, Blizzard plans to show off new gameplay and provide an update on the progress of the sequel during the Overwatch League Finals next week.

Blizzard has yet to name Sonny's replacement as Executive Producer on the Overwatch franchise.
