Overwatch, Blizzard Entertainment’s multiplayer FPS offering became one of the top games in 2016 which was the year it was released. Now, the game is already an esports title, with the Overwatch League being considered as one of the most popular esports leagues in the world.

But as numbers and statistics would say, Overwatch may seem to have a decline in terms of the game’s popularity today. One factor for this is not just new shooter games, but also the emergence of the battle-royale genre, spawning massive titles such as PUBG, Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Apex Legends.

Despite all of these, the game is still alive and active, and it could be surprising once you’ll know how many people play Overwatch this 2021.

Keep reading through this article to know more about the game’s current state in 2021.

How Many People Play Overwatch in 2021?

As reported by Active Player, Overwatch averages around 6 million active players per month since the start of 2021. This could be smaller compared to the monthly average player rate of the other battle-royale titles mentioned above. But the fact that Overwatch still does things like this even if the game is almost five years old is still impressive.

It was in November of 2019 where Blizzard last gave an update regarding the overall Overwatch player count, where they declared that the game already has 50 million players by that time. But since then, there were no longer follow-up updates up to this moment.

Overwatch 2 (The Rescue)

It was also in 2019 where Overwatch 2 was announced. It will be a direct sequel to the original Overwatch title, and will become a standalone game introducing new game modes, heroes, and will be available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC platforms this 2021.
