Square Enix's latest loot-based shooter, Outriders, has already eclipsed Marvel's Avengers' peak Steam playercount.
The superhero smash-up hit 31,165 close to launch, while Outriders has already hit 111,953 - almost triple the same amount as per SteamDB.

Outriders Has Already Crushed Marvel's Avengers' peak Steam player count
Both titles are published by Square Enix, but Avengers had lost 96% of its PC player base within a month and a half following launch.
Between impressive Steam numbers, the game being on Xbox Game Pass, and cross-play, it looks as though People Can Fly's third-person shooter has a really healthy player count.

As for Avengers, the next few months are crucial for Crystal Dynamics' title.
We recently re-reviewed the game and had the following to say:
"I feel for Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics because they've launched a live-service game in the middle of a pandemic, and I think things would be different with a shorter development pipeline."
"In a world where next-gen enhancements hit a few months ago and Black Panther drops this month, I think it'd be a different story. For now, though, it feels like a game treading water – and it'll be fascinating to see if Marvel's Avengers sinks or swims."
