No Man's Sky Adds New Expeditions Mode, Launches Today

No Man's Sky, Hello Games' galaxy-trotting adventure, is getting another sizeable update today.

The game, which has been continuously supported since a rocky launch in 2016, today's update adds Expeditions. These shared missions are themed, and will take players on a whistlestop tour of areas they may not have visited otherwise.

As you can see, a jetpack has been added, and Hello Games has also optimised the game's performance further.

"Work as a community to unlock rewards," the trailer explains.

Players will earn mission patches for their progress, and can unlock parts and ship designs.

Many of these missions will make use of a new Target Sweep Mode in the game's visor, while quality of life improvements and bug fixes are also arriving.

One of the biggest changes is the game's HUD, which has been "completely refreshed, for a cleaner and more legible appearance" according to a new Xbox Wire blog post from Hello Games' founder, Sean Murray.

The post also explains that the game's early game, which had traditionally been a mess of materials and processes, has been streamlined.

The Expeditions update is free for players on all platforms.
