Nintendo Switch Sells More Than 20 Million Units In Japan - Report

According to Famitsu's data, 20,018,278 Switch consoles have been sold, with 16,168,420 of those being the base model and 3,849,858 being Switch Lite hardware.

Famitsu also reported on the best-selling games in the region, and it's perhaps no surprise that Animal Crossing: New Horizons tops the list with over six and a half million units sold.

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (6,778,146)
  2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (4,285,272)
  3. Pokémon Sword and Shield (4,052,668)
  4. Splatoon 2 (3,868,221)
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (3,844,200)

The Switch does lag behind the Nintendo DS, though, which remains Japan's top-selling console with almost 33 million units sold in the country (according to Resetera).

Still, there's plenty of life in the system yet, with a successor heavily rumoured to be announced before E3 2021.

Earlier today, Nintendo announced that its E3 2021 Direct will air on June 15. Find out more here.
