Leaker Suggests Nintendo's Planning A Big Push For Donkey Kong

Known leaker Zippo has suggested that Nintendo's got plans in the works for Donkey Kong. While there were previous rumours that a new entry's being developed by Super Mario Odyssey's team within Nintendo EPD, a new blog post has just elaborated on potential wider plans.

Speaking in a new blog post, Zippo advised:

I’ve been told by multiple people that Donkey Kong is the next franchise in line to follow Mario in Nintendo’s push for their game franchises to become multimedia juggernauts. Donkey and co. aren’t just getting a new game, they’re getting animation (Before this catches fire, my sources did not specify whether or not this was a movie or a show, just that an animation featuring DK characters was early in the works.) a big theme park expansion, merchandise, etc.

Leaker Suggests Nintendo's Planning A Big Push For Donkey Kong

While the theme park expansion has been previously spotted within Universal's Super Nintendo World, it's the first we've heard about a potential animation alongside it. Saying this new game isn't "just a one off", Zippo tells us that DK is "being taken seriously at the big N again".

At this point, it's been 7 years since we last saw an original Donkey Kong game. While Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was ported to Switch back in 2018, it first arrived on the Wii U back in 2014, and we've not seen an original game since. Here's hoping that's finally about to change.
