A Random Ed Boon Tweet Sparked More Marvel Fighting Game Rumors

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon is stoking speculation about what NetherRealm Studios could be working on next. While some speculate Injustice 3 could be in development, a recent tweet from Boon points to the Marvel fighting game rumors the lovely folks at Stealth Optional first reported on.

Boon’s tweet mentions Marvel film director James Gunn has worked on both DC and Marvel movies before ending with a thinking emoji. The tweet was in response to Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 date announcement.

Boon could simply be trying to get a reaction, and if so, it’s certainly worked.

A Random Ed Boon Tweet Sparked More Marvel Fighting Game Rumors

Streamers and Marvel fans alike immediately jumped to the conclusion that Boon was indirectly confirming a Marvel fighting game, a conclusion that gained even more plausibility after Geoff Keighly responded with the eyes emoji.

The rumored Marvel fighting game would be exclusively for next-gen consoles as part of Disney’s efforts to expand IP awareness through different entertainment avenues. NetherRealm’s slate looks clean at the moment following the last major Mortal Kombat 11 update.

Even though its development pattern points to another Injustice game on the horizon, it seems highly likely this isn’t the last we’ll hear of NetherRealm’s Marvel fighting game rumors — especially if Boon has anything to say about it.
