Modern Warfare: M4A1 vs M13 - Which Assault Rifle Should I Use?

The Assault Rifle (AR) weapon category on Modern Warfare's multiplayer is arguably the strongest class of weapons in the entire game. With several weapons that cater to nearly every single style of play, it is very hard to go wrong when armed with an AR.

The M4A1 and the M13 are two of the strongest weapons in its class and the game. With the right combinations of attachments in the Gunsmith, both weapons can be fatal to your opponents; so its important you understand not only what is the best setup, but where they lie in the tier list and which one is better.

In this article, we compare the two weapons and attempt to determine which is the best to use.

M4A1

The M4A1 is unlocked at level six in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode. Offering an unrivalled rate of fire, low levels of recoil and high damage output.

The Pros

The M4A1 has an unparalleled rate of fire, making it extremely effective in close-quarters combat against sub-machine gunners and shotgunners respectively.

With attachment combinations to suit more aggressive players and players that prefer to play at a slower speed, the M4A1 is a very versatile weapon that can be adapted for all scenarios.

The Cons

At extremely long ranges, the fast rate of fire can hinder its performance.

The increase in recoil means a bit of trigger discipline and control is needed to secure the kill but in comparison to the M13, it is much harder to use at distance.

M13

Unlocked at level 39, the M13 is certainly one of the best ARs in the game with the right attachments equipped.

The Pros

The ability to easily control the M13 at all ranges makes it one of the most consistent ARs to use on Modern Warfare.

Boasting a good damage output and a slightly slower rate of fire than the M4A1, the M13 is much more effective at the longer ranges but does lack performance when it comes to close quarters engagements.

The iron sight on the M13 is very easy to use when aiming down the sights (ADS).

A good iron sight means that a free slot becomes available in the Gunsmith, allowing players to add either an additional attachment or a weapon perk for an advantage over the opposition.

The Cons

The slower rate of fire does let the M13 down in terms of performance at close range, making it easy for SMGs, shotguns and even other ARs to take down users of the M13.

The slow fire rate also increases the time it takes to take down an opponent, although dramatically increases accuracy.

Which Is Best?

It is tough to determine which is the best AR out of the two, but I have chosen the M4A1.

Its superior performance at close range combined with the fast rate of fire makes it much more versatile and usable in more scenarios during a game.

Ultimately, it will come down to your personal preference as no gun will truly work for everyone.

The game is always changing and new strategies and methods can change the game.
