CWL Sheffield Highlights

CWL Sheffield Highlights

EGL hosted the final European Open of the Call of Duty World League, Presented by Playstation 4, at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre from Saturday, 24th June until Sunday, 25th June. Here are some highlights from the two-day event.

Day One Pool Play

In Pool A, Red Reserve struggled early in the day, and eRA secured a spot in the Winner’s Bracket with a 3-0 record.

Pool B was dominated by Epsilon with a 9-1 map count, leading the pack over Vitality and both MRN teams.

Pool C was a battle between Millenium and Supremacy, and Supremacy claimed the first seed.

In Pool D, Fnatic was the dominate team with Elevate struggling to hold second.

Day Two Bracket Play

The final day of CWL Sheffield saw strong performances by Epsilon and Fnatic in the Winner’s Bracket, which led to a repeat of the CWL Birmingham Loser’s Bracket Final with Epsilon and Fnatic going head to head, and Epsilon giving them a 3-0 sweep.

Red Reserve crawled out of the Loser’s Bracket after defeating Supremacy 3-2, and then faced off against Fnatic. Unfortunately, Fnatic seemed almost out of steam, and Red Reserve took the series 3-1.

The Grand Finals showdown gave us Epsilon and Red Reserve, fighting for $10,000 and the title of champions. Epsilon continued to be in fantastic form with a 250-186 Scorch Hardpoint win, a 6-3 win on Crusher Search and Destroy, and they gave the crowd an impressive win on Throwback Uplink. David "Dqvee" Davies carried the drone and popped his Active Camo for a dunk to take the lead from Red Reserve in the final seconds of the match, concluding the 3-0 sweep.

Epsilon’s BsportJoshh, Dqvee, Hawqeh, and SteVortex are your CWL Sheffield champions, and this marks their second consecutive European win.

Now Epsilon will need to carry this momentum into Stage Two of the CWL Global Pro League where they’ll meet OpTic Gaming, Team EnVyUs, and Cloud9 in Group Green.
