CWL Dallas - Group B Predictions

CWL Dallas - Group B Predictions

This weekend, over 170 of the world’s best Call of Duty teams will descend upon the Fort Worth Convention Centre in Dallas. The international event will feature a $200,000 prize pool, as well as a huge amount of Pro Points, which are set to play a significant role in who qualifies for the Global Pro League.

The vast majority of attending teams MLG Dallas will be fighting their way through the open bracket, however, sixteen professional teams have automatically qualified for the group stages of the event. Here I'll take a look at the teams battling in Group B.

eUnited

Arcitys | Prestinni | Silly | Gunless

After their championship victory over OpTic Gaming at the CWL Atlanta Open, eUnited proved that they were more than just a bunch of ‘online warriors’. However, despite their meteoric rise to fame, SiLLY and co. struggled to maintain their momentum at CWL Paris, as they concluded the event with a disappointing 13th-16th placement.

In recent weeks, eUnited have somewhat regained their consistency, having reached the quarter-finals of the last two MLG 2K Series’. But, will the North American young-guns be able to find their form in time for Dallas?

Only time will tell…

Team Infused

MarkyB | Nolson | Moose | Peatie

The Red Army is one of Europe’s most notorious teams, and as a result, I believe they are a safe pick for the second seed in Group B. As Brice recently discussed in his EU Power Rankings, much like the old TCM roster consisting of MarkyB, Moose and Peatie, if Team Infused fire on all cylinders, they can create magic.

Cloud9

Aches | Lacefield | Ricky | Assault

There is no denying that Cloud9 is a team stacked with winning potential. However, in recent events, the all-star roster has failed to live up to their potential.

Calling their CWL Atlanta and CWL Paris performances a disappointment would be an understatement. This is a team of undeniably skilled players, who somehow managed a 9-27 record across the last two events.

However, Cloud9 did finish second in the most recent MLG 2k tournament, which gives me hope that they may finally reach their true potential at Dallas.

Mindfreak

Buzzo | Shockz | Excite | Fighta

As the champions of the CWL Sydney Open, Mindfreak will be heading into Dallas as the top team representing the APAC region. However, while they may be the number one APAC seed and CWL Sydney champs, they will have to overcome the likes of eUnited or Team Infused in order to secure their place in the Winners Bracket, which is no simple task.

Predictions

1st: eUnited 3-0

2nd: Team Infused 2-1

3rd: Mindfreak 1-2

4th: Cloud9 0-3

With the abundance of talent on offer, Group B feels like the hardest pool to predict. Will the recent drop in eUnited’s performance give room for Cloud9 to find redemption?

Personally, I don’t think so, and as a result eUnited are still my safe bet to secure first place in Group B, with Team Infused taking second. As long as Mindfreak maintain their recent form, they could cause a few upsets, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they outperform Cloud9.
