CWL Atlanta - Group B Predictions

CWL Atlanta - Group B Predictions

Taking place at the Georgia World Congress Centre from February 10th–12th, CWL Atlanta is the first international Call of Duty event on Infinite Warfare. Over 170 teams are set to compete for a share of the $200,000 prize pool.

Let’s discuss the teams set to battle in Group B.

Splyce

Heading to Atlanta, Splyce are currently Europe’s number one seed. The all-star British team has earned high placements at past events, including their strong performance at CWL London, despite their loss to Orbit in the Grand Final.

Within international events, European teams do not always get the respect they deserve and are often seen as the lesser region behind North America. However, Splyce are determined to change this and fight for their respect in the Call of Duty World League.

In 2016, Splyce dominated several top tier NA teams and earned their spot in the Grand Finals of the Call of Duty World Championship. Despite losing to Team EnVyUs, Splyce secured second at the largest event in Call of Duty history, giving the European scene the recognition and hope it deserves.

Although this roster isn’t exactly the same as the one that placed second at Champs, given the teams recent performance at CWL London, their talent and experience, I expect Splyce to show up just as focused, with their eyes on the prize at Atlanta.

OpTic Gaming

While the Green Wall still possesses arguably the most individually talented team in Call of Duty, there is no denying the fact that OpTic Gaming has faltered at the last several events. Failing to secure a top four placement at MLG Vegas, as well as multiple underwhelming losses in the online 2k series, has left OpTic struggling to find any form and assert their dominance in Infinite Warfare.

However, despite this, with a team as stacked as the Green Wall, you would still expect them to top their Group.

Team Allegiance

Team Allegiance scored a fourth place finish at MLG Vegas, but the team has experienced a disappointing run in the MLG 2k Series throughout January. As a team, Allegiance possesses all the ingredients to be successful; raw talent, slaying power and experience. However, their inconsistency online may result in them failing to emerge victorious from this group.

Evil Geniuses

On paper, Evil Geniuses are a great team, however in recent performances in the MLG 2k series, the squad has failed to perform to their expectations. Personally, I would have never regarded this line-up as potential underdogs leading up to CWL Atlanta, but with an abundance of talent in their pool, they may struggle.

Predictions

1st: OpTic Gaming 3-0

2nd: Splyce 2-1

3rd: Team Allegiance 1-2

4th: Evil Geniuses 0-3

While it’s uncertain whether OpTic Gaming will conclude CWL Atlanta with a strong final placement, I do believe they will top Group B with Splyce taking second place. In regards to the other two teams, I believe Team Allegiance could cause a serious upset, but I really believe EG is going to struggle against their opposition.
