Although the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is just a few weeks away, a leak may have already uncovered details surrounding the 2021 instalment of the popular first-person shooter franchise.

As the Modern Warfare cycle comes to an end and fans turn their attention to a return to the Cold War, some are already looking ahead to what Call of Duty 2021 has in store.

Black Ops Cold War is a direct to the very first Black Ops title originally released in 2010 and it appears that next year’s game has taken inspiration from 2020’s Black Ops reboot.

Notable Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson has emerged with some information surrounding the setting and potential title for Call of Duty 2021.

In a Twitter post, the leaker states that the next Call of Duty game will be another Modern Warfare title in some capacity. A perfectly valid theory after the Modern Warfare series was rebooted in 2019.

I hate to be "that guy" before BOCW has released, but it's looking like CoD for 2021 is another Modern Warfare title of some kind. Understandably not a lot of information as of yet, but it's a modern day setting. Modern Warfare 2 seems like the only logical next step?

Although this is only a leak, Henderson has proven to be a reliable source for information surrounding Modern Warfare, Warzone and most recently, Black Ops Cold War.

It’s certainly early days when it comes to details surrounding CoD 2021 and with any leaks, it’s always best to take the information with a pinch of salt.

One thing that is guaranteed is that Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward will be spearheading development after it was revealed that the franchise would return to a two-year development cycle shared by Infinity Ward and Treyarch.

This isn’t the first time that a sequel to the 2019 edition of Modern Warfare has been mentioned. In April, TheGamingRevolution revealed that a sequel to Modern Warfare would be the first title of the new two-year cycle.

There’s plenty of time until any official details surrounding Call of Duty 2021 are revealed so there is plenty of time for things to change.
