With just weeks to go until the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, players and fans have turned their attention to what is coming in the new title.
The latest instalment of the first-person shooter franchise is returning to the Cold War and is a direct sequel to the very first Black Ops title released in 2010.
In September, developer Treyarch revealed the first details surrounding the hotly anticipated Zombies mode coming to Black Ops Cold War alongside the single-player campaign and multiplayer modes.
On October 28th, data-miner Nanikos posted a massive leak revealing a variety of details on Zombies, including character names, Runes, Perks and much more.
As always, leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt so interpret the information as you wish!
Black Ops Cold War Zombies is starting fresh with a brand-new storyline featuring Requiem and the Omega Group looking to turn the tide in the Cold War.
This latest leak has revealed just some of the characters that are said to be present in Zombies.
- Dmitriyev Kalashnik
- Orlov Medved
- Vogel Kurtz
- Valen Peck
- Dr. William Peck
The leak only details the names of the characters and doesn’t include any information surrounding their respective backgrounds.
Plenty of characters present in Zombies
Ammo Mods is the re-branded name for alternative ammo types which have featured in previous Black Ops titles.
The leak reveals that there is a total of four different Ammo Mods which all feature a diverse range of benefits.
- Cryofreeze - Deals frost damage and slows enemies.
- Dead Wire - Deals electric damage and stuns enemies.
- Napalm Blast - Deals fire damage and burns enemies.
- Brain Rot - Turns a Zombie into an ally.
When Pack-A-Punching your weapon on previous titles, the Ammo Mod on the upgraded weapon was randomly selected but on Black Ops Cold War, players now have the opportunity to select which Ammo Mod they want to equip.
Field Upgrades work in a similar way to how Specialists did on Black Ops 4 Zombies.
According to the leak, some of these upgrades are support based, offering you and your team some vital support when the going gets tough.
So far there are six Field Upgrades confirmed.
- Aether Shroud – All Zombies ignore players (Lasts five seconds)
- Ring of Fire – Ring of fire surrounds the players and gives everyone a damage boost. Burns enemies that try to enter the circle.
- Healing Aura – Heals all players to full health.
- Frost Blast – Deals a blast of frost damage and slows Zombies.
- Energy Mine – A Proximity Mine.
The leak also states that there are three additional Field Upgrades that are mentioned in the code of the game. They are known as Lightning Links, Toxic Growth, and Frenzy Guard but it is unclear as to what abilities these particular upgrades possess.
At the very end of the first gameplay trailer, the iconic Juggernog Perk could be seen, much to the delight of Zombies fans!
According to the leak, there are several other classic Perks returning to Zombies.
- Quick Revive
- Deadshot Daiquiri
- Elemental Pop
- Der Wunderfizz
There will be a mix of new and old perks in Black Ops Cold War Zombies
Said to be the biggest innovation coming to Black Ops Cold War Zombies, Runes are a brand-new way to upgrade everything from Ammo Mods, Perks, and weapon classes.
It is believed that each individual Perk, Ammo Mod and weapon class has a total of three upgrades, which adds up to a grand total of 72 upgrades.
An example of how Runes function can be found below:
- Level 1 Stamin-Up – Movement imparing effects reduced by 50%
- Level 2 Stamin-Up – No falling damage.
- Level 3 Stamin-Up – Can run while aiming down sights.
With a range of upgrades for pretty much everything in Zombies, players can refine their choices to reflect their style of play.

It wouldn’t be Call of Duty Zombies without some insane Wonder Weapons for players to get their hands on.
The Zombies reveal trailer has already featured one Wonder Weapon which is known as D.I.E. It is said that it has a total of four upgrade types which enables players to chance the ammo type.
These ammo types are known as Nitro Stream, Particle Beam, Plasma Ball and Gas Cloud.
The leak also confirms the existence of a second Wonder Weapon known as the Ray Rifle. Given the name, could this be an upgraded version of the iconic Ray Gun?!
Some of these Wonder Weapons look insane!
Alongside Aetherium, Salvage is another currency that players can earn during a game.
Salvage can be used to craft lethal and tactical equipment such as frag grenades and more.
Players can also use Salvage to upgrade the rarity of weapons in order to give them upgrades without the cost of a Pack-A-Punch.
One of the biggest and perhaps the most controversial change to Zombies is the inclusion of armour.
The leak states that it works in a similar fashion to Warzone, with players being able to carry a total of three pieces of armour which can be used to increase resistance from a Zombie melee attack.
Armour can be upgraded three times at dedicated armour stations which can be found at various locations around the map.
