Garena Free Fire Battlegrounds: December Update, Character System And Progression Adjustment Dev Blog

Garena Free Fire is a third-person Battle Royale game that has exploded onto the mobile gaming scene recently and has had a recent December Update, as well as a character system and progression adjustment made.

Developed by 111dots Studio from Vietnam and published by Garena, the game released back in December 2017 for Android and iOS.

With over 450 million users, the game has taken a fair share of users from PUBG Mobile - which will reach its 11th Season soon.

Here’s everything there is to know about the December update.

December Update

During December, players can find new goodies including a brand new map, several new cosmetics and additional characters; among a few others.

Training Island and a New Map: Kalahari Desert

The December update brings actually brings two new maps.

The newest addition is called Kalahari Desert, which is an entirely unique setting.

The new map will have a location that Free Fire players may already know about - the Military Base - which existed on the Purgatory Map but has since been removed.

The Desert map has a lot of high ground, which guarantees many shooting exchanges and little cover.

The other new map is called “Training Island” and, you guessed it, is an Island for training.

This is huge as players can now practice manoeuvres and shooting techniques, especially as Free Fire takes great skill, finesse and practice in order to pull off the right moves.

Whenever a new gun or gun skin is equipped, players will now be able to get the hang of it in a friendly environment, rather than a lobby or in a match itself.

New Characters And Cosmetics

The Brazillian Free Fire account tweeted recently confirmed that two new characters will arrive with the December update.

Angela and Álvaro come with their own unique passives and abilities, along with the new pet Robo who increases the durability of GLOO walls when equipped.

Now, who's a good boy.

Angela is similar to Paloma, however, instead of being able to hold more AR rounds, Angela can carry insane amounts of SMG ammo.

With Alvaro, players will be able to take a load more explosive damage than usual – that means landmines, grenades and oil barrels are all rendered useless against this pyromaniac!

A new Pan skin is set to arrive including some Christmas themed skins.

Character System And Progression Adjustment

Garena has released a recent Dev Blog, admitting fault at character levelling up being too challenging for players.

This task is evidently made harder by increasing the number of characters, so they have come up with a way to ease the burden.

Garena is reducing the total amount of fragments needed to reach the max level by roughly 20%, and the number of fragments dropped per match has been increased virtually four-fold.

No more getting stuck on Level 6 or 7 then.

Next, the number of fragments dropped per match will be increased by 3-4 times, as well as increasing the daily limit for character fragments from 100 to 250.

Levelling costs will now be lowered, the gold and diamond costs to level up characters are being halved.

Lastly, two changes are being made to character skill slots. A fourth character skill slot is being added, while also lowering the cost needed to unlock each slot.
